The Verizon MiFi 2200 allows you to become your own hot spot network (for up to 5 devices no less!) for wireless internet access.  Your personal hot spot has 3G access through Verizon’s network.  I can’t tell you how many times I have my net book and if there is a wireless internet signal, it is secured. The Verizon MiFi makes a wireless network for you anywhere you can access the Verizon 3G network (which has fantastic coverage).  So, you can revise that contract at the beach and delight in the outdoors. You can pick up this baby for a cool $99 and the monthly service runs approximately $60.00.  That service includes 5gig of bandwidth a month which should be more than enough unless you are downloading/watching videos etc.

The problem all of us encounter at one time or another is “low battery”.  I wish these companies would make a larger capacity battery (especially on the iTouch – that runs out ridiculously quick!).  But, until they do, you can solve this problem easily with a Power Monkey.  This sleek small device is powered by a rechargeable lithium battery and will give you approximately an additional 40 hours on your mobile tech toy (be it a blackberry, iTouch, etc.).  It comes with a slew of adapters to power nearly any device.  I ordered 4 – one for each of us in my family as we are constantly recharging and it gets annoying.  At approximately $60.00 each, everyone should have one!

 Most people have
heard of Twitter with the recent media blitz on news programs etc. but don’t
quite know what it is or how to jump into the fray.  Twitter is a social networking tool that
allows the sharing of information on the micro-level.  That information, which is passed along as
“tweets” is limited to 140 characters.  Not used properly, one can easily be
overwhelmed by the information bombardment. But, with the proper tools, you can
sort your “Tweeples”, perform searches for pertinent information or
people to follow, and network efficiently.

start, I recommend visiting Lucas Black‘s
The Quick Tweet Guide which gives a bulleted list of how to accomplish the
basics in Twitter.  The two programs I
use to manage Tweets & Tweeples are Tweetdeck and Flock 2.5.  Tweetdeck is an Adobe AIR program that allows you to stay in touch with what’s happening now,
connecting you with your contacts across Twitter, Facebook and more. TweetDeck
shows you everything you want to see at once, so you can stay organized and up
to date.  It allows you to make
groups for your tweeples to make the information more manageable.  I want to see the group feature become
shareable across computers.  That is, if
you structure groups on one computer, that you could share it with the rest of
your computers.  Flock is my favorite
internet browser and is a social-networking number one resource.  The newest edition of Flock incorporates a
Twitter search engine feature that allows you to type in any word and pull up
all tweets that contain that word.  As
such, you can easily find the topics and people you want to follow to grow your
business. Flock has many other fantastic features and incorporates numerous
social networks, blogging platforms, email etc.

Why Network
Socially?  Today, networking is not just
about handing out cards and getting business, it is about making
relationships.  We do that by sharing a
small bit of ourselves and becoming a person, not just a name or a brand, to
our customers.  How much to share?
 Josh Camson in his blog post, “Are
You Keeping the Social in Social Networking” provides the following
breakdown from Diane Danielson of Downtown Women’s Club:

about your own business/career.

30%
about someone else’s business (promoting/retweeting/fan pages)

30%
about your personal interests (your dog, the real housewives …, etc.)

of just plain amusing or thought-provoking thoughts

Reckon before you
write is probably the best advice I can give you.  Try to step back and look at your possible
tweet and see how it would look from a customer’s point of view.  The drunk fest you had with the office on
Friday night might not give the right impression to a prospective investor
looking to have you handle a multi-million dollar deal.  Further, my personal pet peeve is quotes. There
are folks that all they do is post quote after quote.  I have a hard enough time sifting through all
the fluff and garbage than to have my TweetDeck muddled with quotes from well-known
people.  If I wanted a quote, I would
google search it.

YouMail let’s you make different messages for individuals or groups.  If you prefer, you can choose from hundreds of prerecorded messages– from formal to amusing.

I can’t tell you just how many business cards I have collected (and/or lost) over the years and how I despise having to type that information into Outlook, sync and send etc.  Also, I invariably run out of business cards at the most inopportune times and I never have all of my pertinent information on that small card either.  Who does?? Between instant messenger ids, blogs, groupsites I could fill a whole page with my contact info.  Dropcard is a fantastic service that allows you to send a text message to the company which then texts your contact info to your recipient’s email address.  Here is how it works:

First, sign up for a free account and make your profile (you get 2– business & personal), which includes:

• name and title
• your blog and website links
• email addresses
• telephone numbers
• IM/chats (skype, yahoo, etc)
• social networks (Myspace, Facebook, Linkedin, etc)
• Vcard.

Whenever you meet someone, get their email address and text it to dropcard (at 41411) and dropcard will forward your profile to them via email. They can then instantly add you to their address book. Efficiency at its best!

Here’s how:

Send a text message to 41411 drop JohnDoe@theiremail.com

Your profile will be emailed to that person.  You also get a confirmation copy by email. Voila!

So there you have it, I signed up for both so you never know if you commit the cardinal sin and really call my cell just which voicemail you may be getting and I’ll be txting you my updated info!!!
